Working from home is not what it used to be. Life is not what it used to be. Many working adults now find themselves simultaneously being an employee, a teacher, a camp counselor, a conflicts resolution mediator (or, a parent) and a spouse. And if you are like me, you felt you were not succeeding at any of them. Stress levels are high and when you find time to quarantine yourself within the quarantine, but this time so you can get work done, it is routinely interrupted by the other inmates. Even though you might have a home office within the house… it can only separate you so much. What is needed in these times of almost exclusively working from home is a space physically separated from the house. This separation provides a barrier to interruption, but also mentally separated your home from work. It is so easy to be constantly surrounded by work and not be able to turn it off because you walk by your office constantly.
Many municipalities allow the construction of an accessory use structure on one's property without a variance. And an acceptable use for that structure is a home office. For a small permit fee and a minor financial investment (when valued against your property), one could enhance their investment and invest in their mental well being.
