Inspiration | Art Nouveau | Victor Horta

The Art Nouveau movement was popular around the turn of the 20th century, and came to rise in Belgium but spread to many other countries in Europe as well as the United States. Architecture of the Art Nouveau style was inspired by organic forms, curves, and a sense of movement. Structures were built with modern materials of the time, such as iron, glass, concrete, ceramics, and textiles. Works from the Art Nouveau period invoke a connection to nature and are perhaps a precursor to biophilic design response - it was certainly a precursor to Modernism.
